Canister sets have always been an important part of our kitchen
environment. But I believe they perfected the design in the 1950's,
when it seemed there was a set designed for each and every kitchen.
You can tell by the sheer variety of canister sets available at
garage sales and flea markets.
A canister set is made up of four containers, one for flour, one
for sugar, one for tea and the last one for coffee; all items that,
at least in the 50's were used on a daily basis. In the 90's kitchen
however, canister sets are perfect for keeping cookies and other
less decadent treats nice and fresh. |
