The origin of canisters, such as these beautiful white and orange ones, can be a bit deceiving. Given their art deco quality, you might think that they were crafted in Europe or the United States. Surprise! When you turn them over and read the bottom, you will notice an inscription which reads, "Hand painted in Japan, U.S. patent applied for." According to my friend, vintage collector and dealer Joan Sternthal, this means the piece's origin is occupied Japanware. Very collectible!
